Getting Started
Detailed setup for Alfa: brand creation, topic discovery, article generation, review, export, and publishing.
Getting Started with Alfa
Alfa works best when you treat it as a structured SEO workspace, not a one-off prompt box. The product is designed around reusable brand context, repeatable topic research, and long-form article generation that can move into export or publishing without copy-paste chaos.
Step 1: Set Up a Brand
Brand profiles are the foundation of Alfa. They provide the context that the topic and article systems use throughout the workspace and the CLI.
What a Brand Profile Stores
Core Brand Context
Brand name, website URL, tagline, products, competitors, and CTA goals.
Audience Context
Target audience, job roles, industries, sophistication, and pain points.
Writing Guidance
Preferred terms, forbidden words, style notes, and internal links you want the system to reuse.
Voice Profile
A summarized voice model inferred from article URLs or entered manually.
Website Prefill
If you provide a website URL, Alfa can analyze the site and suggest:
- brand name
- tagline
- target audience
- products
- competitors
- industry
- candidate blog URLs for voice analysis
This makes first-time setup much faster than filling every field by hand.
Voice Analysis
Voice analysis uses article URLs to infer how the brand writes. The resulting profile can include:
- formality
- emotion
- humor
- confidence
- perspective
- summary guidance
- representative voice samples
If you already know the tone you want, you can still edit or replace the generated guidance before saving.
Step 2: Build a Topic Backlog
Once a brand exists, move to Discover Topics.
Option A: Run Topic Discovery
Topic discovery uses the saved brand context to research the market and create a structured backlog. Alfa stores the result as topic sets and includes fields useful for prioritization:
- funnel stage
- title
- primary keyword
- secondary keywords
- search volume
- keyword difficulty
- search intent
- rationale
The backlog is designed for reuse, not just a one-time result. You can return later, save sets, and generate articles from individual topics.
Option B: Import Topics
If you already have a list from another SEO workflow, use topic import instead.
CSV imports must include:
titleprimary_keyword
Optional columns include:
funnel_stagesecondary_keywordstopic_typesearch_intent
JSON imports are also supported through the app and CLI workflows.
Step 3: Generate an Article
You can start article generation in two ways:
- from a topic in the topic backlog
- from the Create / Write screen with a new prompt
Article Categories
The current writing workflow supports these categories:
- Listicle
- Topic Guide
- Comparison
- How-to Guide
- Alternatives Guide
- Product Review
Word Count Targets
The UI exposes target ranges from roughly 1,000 words up to 5,000+ words. Alfa uses the selected range to set an explicit generation target for the pipeline.
Step 4: Review the Draft
When the run completes, Alfa opens the richer article view where you can review and refine the output.
Review Surface
The article workspace includes:
- the draft body
- article status controls
- copy actions for Markdown, HTML, and plain text
- export actions for Markdown, MDX, HTML, and JSON
- SEO metadata fields such as title, slug, and meta description
- schema output and structured metadata previews
Citations and Verification
When the run contains article payloads with citations or verification data, Alfa surfaces them in the final output and export structures. That makes it easier to keep research trails attached to the content rather than rebuilding them afterward.
Step 5: Publish or Export
WordPress
WordPress is the current fully wired publishing flow in the app. You configure it per brand in Settings and choose whether posts should land as drafts or go live immediately.
File Exports
If you publish elsewhere, export the article in the format your system expects:
- Markdown
- MDX
- HTML
- JSON
This keeps Alfa useful even when your CMS is not yet directly connected.
Step 6: Track Usage and Plan Limits
Open Billing to check:
- current tier
- billing interval
- remaining articles
- remaining topic research runs
- remaining brand profiles
The active codebase currently defines:
beta: 5 articles, 1 topic research run, 1 brand profilepro: 9 articles/month, 2 topic research runs/month, 3 brand profilesenterprise: customized capacity managed with Alfa
If you’re planning a high-throughput workflow, decide early whether you want Alfa to be your full topic-to-publishing system or just your article generation layer. That choice affects how much effort you invest in brand and integration setup.
